The Lazarus Effect of Growth Hormone Replacement
Are you ready for the wildest research revelations in
the whole anti-aging field, the accomplishments of the human growth hormone?
If ever science has been close to stumbling on immortality, discovering
the effects of replacing the human growth hormone (HGH) levels comes closest.
The study that opened the floodgates to thousands of research
papers was published in 1990 in the New England Journal of Medicine. During
this study, twelve aging men between 61 and 81 years, shed then flabby,
fat-laden bodies and became younger, stronger versions of themselves. The
study claimed that "The effect of six months of HGH on lean body mass
and adipose-tissue mass were equivalent in magnitude to the changes that
occurred during ten to twenty years of aging." In other words, aging
was reversed!
But that's only the beginning of what this pituitary hormone
will do for you. The list of benefits keeps growing with the research.
The fact that we all lose our levels of growth hormone
starting in our twenties and that by age 60 our HGH production is cut in
half, and by age 65 half of the population is partially or wholly deficient
in the growth hormone, did not register as a marker for aging until just
a few years ago. Little did science suspect that this amazing substance,
if taken by adults, would offer us a fountain of youth:
* The most effective anti-obesity solution ever discovered.
* Cosmetic surgery in a bottle, removing facial wrinkles,
plumping up skin contours, replacing extracellular water (the loss of which
makes the elderly look like dried prunes) and restoring elasticity to our
skin.
* A new lease on life mentally and emotionally reviving
our energy, relieving our stress and anxiety, restoring a deep, restful
sleep and sharpening our memory and IQ.
* A restoration to normal, of our shrinking organs (brain,
heart, liver, kidneys)
* The concurrent reversal of wear and tear that has occurred
with those aging organs.
If all of this sounds like fiction to you, let me get
right down to specifics. I think you are beginning to see that feeling
emotionally and physically stable for life MUST include hormonal replacement.
But I want you to know just what researchers have found, how safe (or unsafe)
it is, who need it most, and how you can increase your own HGH availability
wisely and successfully for the rest of your life.
The Fat to Muscle Miracle
It's certainly no secret that America is fattening up
at an alarming rate. Unfortunately the more fat we carry, the less growth
hormone we release. Those who are apple-shaped (fat accumulation around
the middle) have a far greater risk of diabetes and heart disease as well
as losing growth hormone, than pear-shaped persons. So the shape of your
own body clues you in to your individual HGH needs.
Over 200 persons who recently received a low dose (.3
to .7 IU of growth hormone twice daily) reported no adverse effects. Over
three-quarters noted body-fat loss, muscle gain, greater strength, and
energy levels. Skin texture improved as did skin thickness and elasticity.
Photographs in Life Extension, June 97 an international
monthly periodical on anti-aging research, show remarkable changes in an
aging couple after 6 months of growth hormone treatment. Their formerly
sagging, lumpy bodies had totally changed into muscular and curvaceous
shapes. Hair was thicker, facial muscles tauter. They looked twenty years
younger in every way. No plastic surgeon could accomplish all of these
changes, yet what we are looking at is only the outside of the package.
HGH Effects on the Brain
If you have lost the zest for life, feel depressed or
anxiety-riddled, live with low vitality and a fading interest in staying
alive, you're going to look in the mirror and say "I'm old, I'm weary,
I can't get interested in future risks and opportunities." Once that
message gets rooted in your subconscious, you'll become a self-fulfilling
prophecy.
What can growth hormone do about all this? Pioneering
researchers in Sweden, Denmark and England noted such marked changes in
self esteem and well being in their patients on growth hormone, that they
started calling it the "Lazarus Effect." Dr. Benzt-Ak Bengtsson,
MD at Salgrenska Hospital says:
"We woke them up. With some patients it was like
giving them a kick in the back. Their lives changed within a few weeks."
Researchers at St. Thomas Hospital described their patients before using
the growth hormone shared in common "poor energy, emotional liability,
low mood and social isolation." Some were so psychiatrically disturbed
with anxiety, depression and a loss of self control, that they would warrant
intervention. Yet on growth hormone, these abnormalities of mood and energy
cleared up. HGH has been found to cross the blood-brain barrier where it
raises endorphin levels creating its own natural high, and lowers dopamine,
too much of which produces agitation.
Bengtsson's work with growth hormone patients documents
their reversal of fatigue and depression. The re-hydration of body tissues
perks up their vitality much like watering drooping flowers. Thus growth
hormone has also proved its worth in reversing chronic fatigue syndrome
by lifting energy levels to new highs.
Stress Relief From HGH
You probably have already seen that the ability to rebound
from the stresses of life gradually fades with age. Dr. Thierry Hertoghe,
MD, an expert on hormonal deficiency, tells us:
"Over anxiety or hyper emotionality is a sign of
growth hormone deficiency. Androgens help both men and women calm down,
but you don't get the calmness that you do with growth hormone. Of all
the hormones I work with, growth hormone relaxes the individual most."
He describes his recent reactions upon taking growth hormone: "In the past year I've been in difficult situations but I haven't
experienced the stress that usually goes along with this, like not sleeping
well, waking up in the middle of the night worrying, getting up in the
morning feeling like I haven't slept. That has all gone away. I know its
not a placebo effect because when I stop taking the hormone, all these
stressful feelings return."
Actually, sleep deprivation will cause a lower release
of growth hormone, so he is describing a two-edged sword.
Memory and Growth Hormone
Growth hormone has been proven to reverse the decline
in memory and in cognitive abilities. Dutch researcher Jan Berend Deijem,
MD. and colleagues found that a lack of growth hormone is associated with
impairment of both short term and long term memory and of iconic memory
(the ability to process flashes of information) as well as perceptual motor
skills such as hand to eye coordination. They were able to actually correlate
the levels of growth hormone to the patient's IQ.
Growth hormone may well be able to reverse our aging brain's
shrinking size. The growth factors stimulate neurons to regrow dendritic
connections. Glial cells which nourish the neurons, also can regenerate.
The University of California at Berkeley has successfully carried out these
experiments on rats, turning their old brains into young ones and even
increasing their cortex growth!
Can HGH Increase Life Span?
As long as we can continually fight and win our battles
with disease, we will stay alive and healthy. But as our immune systems
slowly fail us, we start losing the war. There is a vital connection between
maintaining high immunity and our levels of growth hormone.
The primary weapon of the immune system is our thymus
gland. It provides us with all the immunity factors we need to fight off
disease. It also shrivels as we age, as do our defenses against invading
illnesses. The growth hormone boosts our thymus gland, reviving it and
reversing this shrinkage.
It has been a common belief that nothing can stop the
shriveling of the aging thymus. But Dr. Keith Kelley (University of Illinois
researcher) has disproved the notion that nothing will reactivate this
life protecting gland. He tells us "You can get it back by using a
treatment growth hormone!'
With increased immunity we avoid disease and live a much
longer life span. How long, still remains to be seen, but there is no doubt
we have stumbled on a way to rejuvenate our immune systems as well as our
brains.
Dr. Greg Fahy Ph.D., a researcher in cellular physiology,
sums it up: "I think that a lot of aging can be explained by deficits
in growth hormone. I don't think that even people working in the field
see the whole picture. If you put all the pieces of evidence together,
it suggests that growth hormone is even more central to the aging process
than most people suspected."
How to Say No to Aging
I expect that you are now sufficiently dazzled by the
possibilities replacing growth hormone offers you. At any age after your
second decade of life, you can take specific steps to replace this precious
hormone. In doing so, you halt physical and mental decay and prolong your
life substantially because of restoring a youthful immune system.
Depending on your age and your levels of growth hormone,
you now have three choices to boost your HGH levels:
1. Actual Growth Hormone injections done daily under the
supervision of a physician (expensive and not recommended for those still
producing their own GH.)
2. Take GHB (gamma hydroxybutrate). Unavailable in the
U.S since the FDA declared it an illegally marketed drug. (Despite a 40
year history of safe clinical use.)
3. Taking certain levels of natural GH precursors (pre-mixed
in Bio-GH Releasers) to boost production of growth hormone and stimulate
a natural increased secretion of growth hormone.
Step one is to assess your HGH by measuring the somatomedin
C (IGF-I) which is the body's growth hormone marker. This blood test can
be done in your doctor's office or can be ordered through Life Extension
Foundation, by calling 1-800-841-5433 or faxing them at 1-954-761-9199
and requesting a requisition form and information on the blood draw station
nearest you. The results will be sent to you, with the recommendation that
you work closely with your physician in evaluating the test's outcome.
Your MD's task will be to raise your IGF-I to a normal level for a thirty
to forty year old, somewhere in the high 200's or low 300's.
Growth Hormone Enhancement Through Growth
Hormone Releasers
(Bio-GH Releasers)
As I told you earlier, many of you may solve your waning
growth hormone levels by taking certain natural substances in fairly large
amounts, that will cause increased secretion of growth hormone. Providing
your pituitary gland still stocks ample growth hormone, you will be able
to increase its output to levels that have a definite effect on your body
and mind.
Natural Substances that Stimulate HGH Release
The amino, arginine is already used intravenously (15
to 30 grams) as a medical test to provoke the pituitary into producing
human growth hormone. In the eighties Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw extolled
(and became living proof of) the combination of combining arginine 5 to
10 grams with another amino ornithine 2 1/2 to 5 grams at bedtime to jump
start an outpouring of growth hormone while you sleep.
A 1981 Italian study found the combination of lysine and
arginine at 1200 milligrams each (1 gram plus 200 mg), was 10 times as
efficient as arginine alone in raising growth hormone in teenagers. But
in men over sixty five, doses of these two aminos did nothing. In other
words there was little growth hormone left to trigger a response.
Glutamine in 2 gram doses has been shown to raise growth
hormone levels more than four times higher than a placebo at any age, according
to a 1995 study at Louisiana State College of Medicine by Dr. Thomas Wellbourne.
Niacin (or B3) at 500 mg also has proved effective in
releasing
growth hormone.
GHB (gamma hydroxybutrate) the newest entry, is a precursor
of GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) GABA regulates the anterior pituitary
gland that secretes growth hormone. GHB is one of the most powerful simulators
of growth hormone known to date. However, it is not currently available
in the United States.
Side Effects of Growth Hormone Releasers
If you are taking the amino acid formula to release your
own growth hormone, be aware that aminos are not for damaged livers. If
you suspect elevated liver readings, have a chemistry profile lab test
done to check it out. Taking niacin if you are diabetic, may raise your
glucose levels and call for an adjustment in insulin.
The Future of Growth Hormone Releasers
There are several drug growth hormone releasers presently
undergoing clinical drug tests. When approved, these oral agents will mean
you can just pop a pill daily to stimulate the production of your growth
hormone! Time line for these wondrous drugs is within the next five to
seven years!
Are You Running on Empty?
But what if you are in the one-third of our aging population
that has practically no growth hormone of your own to stimulate? Then these
growth hormone releasers are NOT for you. (Remember, a lab test will answer
the important question of how much, if any, you have right now.) The good
news is that the FDA has now approved the use of actual growth hormone
so you can put back what you lost. These shots of growth hormone will thrill
you with their ability to reverse the trappings of aging. The results have
been spectacular, as well as tragic as scientists experimented with research
trials.
